Health of the Basset Hound
The Basset Hound is a very healthy and robust breed. However, as with any other breed (or cross-breed) some Basset Hounds can ocasionally suffer from health problems. If you think your Basset is suffering from any kind of health problem you should always consult a Veterinary Surgeon a soon as possible.
A Breed Health Survey was conducted at the end of last year and the detailed results will be published on this page as soon as they become available to us.

Our current project is to gather blood samples from as many Basset Hounds as possible - related and non related. The blood will be stored by the Animal Health Trust and will be used for DNA research into health conditions affecting the Basset Hound. As a consequence, as much blood as possible is required from healthy Bassets as wall as those diagnosed with any health condition.
